Oh no! You've dropped your digital stuff. And it's out of warranty. And repair costs more than the digital stuff is worth. What to do short of tossing the digital stuff (or selling on ebay)? Well, believe it or not the average person has a good chance of diy fixing that digital stuff themselves. All they'll need for most cases is some patience, and a little background knowledge. The intent of the posts on this blog are to help provide that knowledge.

LG U880 disassembly


LG U880 disassembly
Tools required: Phillips size 0 screwdriver
Turn your phone over so the back is facing you. Remove the battery. Now remove the 4 screws (circled below)

Remove the 2 screws (circled below). These screws may be covered by some plastic covers. These simply peel off.

Next remove the 2 rubber stoppers & screws above the main screen (circled below)

Now remove the two screws below the main screen (circled below)

Run a fingernail along the join of the housing to unclip it

The top of the phone should now be in two pieces, as below

Unclip the ribbon circled below. This attaches like a plug and socket

Now detach the top of the phone from the bottom. This involves a little force as it is a tight fit

Double back the ribbon on itself so it is away from the LCD screen

Use the screwdriver to lever the old screen out

Replace the old screen with new and reverse the whole procedure for reassembly
